The Dragon Journal
There is a wonderful technique I like to call ‘the Dragon Journal’. It isn’t a regular journal or a dream journal or a ‘Thoughts of the Day’ kind of journal. It is specific and intentional. It is a special, dedicated book to write entries that are based in the future. Not dreams, not intentions, the musings of someone who is experiencing the actual reality that is being co-created and written about now. It is written ‘as if’, in a diary format. In other words, it begins by recounting the ‘perfect day’ and describing what happens, where you are, who is with you and what you are doing. Detailed and explicit, the expression of a fulfilled and grateful life experience.
Begin by taking a moment and actually imagining a marvelous morning in great detail. What is the weather like, where are you, are you waking up in a loved one’s arms? Is the smell of the ocean the first thing you become aware of? What do you do? Where do you go, give the descriptions and details. Be elaborate, no holds barred, as if that is what your life like is right NOW.
Find yourself experiencing the emotions as you write the details of this perfect morning as it moves into the day, what you are doing or where you are going or enjoying having - whatever is most exciting, satisfying or desired. It can be a peaceful day with nothing required, no deadlines, no commitments, no expectations. For some of us, this is a very rare occurrence and so, can be reason to celebrate. But most of us like a little more excitement!
You might wish to give yourself a few days to write about. Travel, for example, is something that covers more than one day, with the sights and sounds and smells of foreign lands and the challenges of airports or trains or even cars. Let yourself draw on past experiences to offer up the details, but don’t limit yourself to things you have already done or places you know. Let the mind soar, what does your perfect environment offer?
As you write, make a powerful effort not to talk yourself out of what you are describing… “yeah, right, I wish. No way!” Those kinds of musings are counterproductive and actually serve to derail your desires. It is wonderful to ‘see’ it as if it is already there, happening. In this moment. Clear and present, like a memory of this day. NOW.
As you wander through the day, describe meals, sights, smells, involve all the senses possible. Also focus on feelings and let your body experience the feeling of what you are describing, AS IF it is happening RIGHT NOW!
As you do this over several days or weeks, the details become more present and easier to describe. The actions you take are giving you the context to take the next step and see where it leads. If you are working on a project, follow its progress and celebrate even small achievements. Let yourself feel what comes up as you write about the job or the new car or the relationship.
One of the aspects of the Dragon Journal is that it is a template that you will be creating your days in resonance with what you feel most powerfully connected to or aligned with. Your body and heart will respond to the feelings being generated. Make an effort to have your brain join in the creative process with actual details that make everything feel more real and present in the NOW.
Keep this going and you may find yourself recognizing synchronicities that bring much of what you are describing into form as opportunities and conversations present that support the vision you have defined as your reality. The real fun is when you look back on these words in a future time and realize you described what is now the present experience. It gives cosmic shivers to your future self!
Enjoy and let your imagination soar. Come from the foundation of knowing “Anything is Possible”, let yourself feel gratitude for your perfect day! Now, write about another…and another.
